New camera, new pictures

Mar 3, 2007

Winter quarter has officially ended. I had my last final this Friday at 8 AM, and now our "Spring" break has started, for which I don't have any plans since a road trip idea fell rather stone dead. I finished with some great classes, the favorites being "Photography for non-photo majors," and "HCI: Human Factors," a class about human thinking versus design principles. The photography class really helped me expand my technical knowledge of photography, as well as my conceptual view of the art form. All this time I've been against formal schooling of art, but I really think this class did me a lot of good.

In terms of the job search, no companies have responded to my request for a Spring co-op, so it looks like I'll be looking for a Summer co-op that goes into the fall instead. But, on to the pictures!

Something that I neglected to mention in the post-Christmas update was that I obtained a new camera for Christmas. A Canon Digital Rebel XTi with kit lens, to be exact. It's definitely a step up from the Powershot I used to shoot with, although I will never forget my old camera, and still carry it with me in the case for the XTi. One of the reasons I have the camera is because the photography class mentioned above required the use of a fully manual film or digital camera, meaning my Powershot was out of the picture. Looking back through my photography, I believe that I improved drastically as time went on, and reached an apex of creativity just before getting the XTi, so it was a perfect transition.

Two of the most noteworthy additions to the photography page are my midterm and final project. They represent the most work I've put into any photography project, and I had a lot of fun with both of them.

Finally, Bubble's Revenge has gone through a few changes, as a few exploits of the high-score list popped up recently. It turns out that it's almost impossible to make a secure high score system in Flash and PHP/mySQL, but the game is definitely a lot more secure now than it was before. Also, there's an easter egg for if you get out of the water!
