Happy Ten Dollar Day!

Apr 15, 2007

We're well into "spring" quarter at RIT, and it's been giving me a lot of work to do. But first, I'd like to celebrate that today (technically yesterday) I reached a ten dollar profit from AdSense! Woohoo! It only took me what, two months? That's not long at all if you ignore every other website out there. No one has complained about the ads yet so I think I'll keep them for a little while longer and continue to experiment with placement.

First off, personal news. I have a full time job! I met recruiters at the RIT career fair for a web design company called Siteworx. So far it's a summer/fall co-op position with part time afterwards, and they will potentially hire me right out college to work for them long term. They're based in Virginia, but as luck would have it they're opening up a Rochester office pretty much right now, so I'll be able to keep living with my housemates over the summer. I'm really pumped about this, it seems like a great company and the people I talked to are my type of crowd.

Good Hair DayIn similarly awesome news, there is a new video for you to see/hear, "Good Hair Day." During winter quarter I scored a student animation film in the style of the "Fairly Oddparents." We worked for several weeks putting it together and syncing up the music with the action. I was not, however, involved in the sound effects. You can read more about it (as well as download the high-res version) in the music section, but it was tremendous fun. Click the picture over there for easy YouTube access! Lidiya did a great job with the drawing and capturing the style of the show.

Also in this update is a new addition to the web portfolio, the student photography site lilymakoski.com. This site has a lot going on behind the scenes and uses JavaScript for image transitions. It's my first time really working with JS, and I'm pleased with the result. I also learned about the terrible, terrible quirks of the Safari browser in the design process. A big specification of this site that it needed to run fine on Macs (Safari), and man, I had no idea how bad that rendering engine was. I could rant, but I wont!

I'm sure this is a premature statement, but the forums have picked up again recently. I've started playing Day of Defeat Source again and decided to dabble in the glitching world again, and there's some good response for it. I don't see it coming back to the site, but there's a few new faces over three.

New runway link too! Go look at that.
